About Stephen

Driven by the game. Focused on people.

Stephen Sheil, hurling and camogie coach
“Create the right environment, set clear standards, and give players the belief to express themselves.”

My coaching is grounded in a lifelong connection with the GAA and a belief that strong teams are built through consistency, trust and purposeful work.

From playing the game in Carlow to coaching and managing at club, development and inter-county level, I’ve seen how much progress comes from getting the fundamentals right and creating an environment where players take ownership.

I value honest communication, individual responsibility and collective effort. The aim is to help players improve, build a resilient team identity and perform with confidence when it matters.

Every team has its own challenges. My job is to understand the group, establish a clear direction and bring people together around standards they believe in.

Coaching philosophy

Three standards. Every session.

Culture is not a speech before a match. It is what a team consistently does in training, in competition and when things get difficult.

Team huddle before training or a match
01 —

Consistency

Build reliable habits. Repeat the basics at pace and under pressure until good performance becomes part of how we play.

02 —

Work rate

Compete for every ball, support the player beside you and keep working when the game asks difficult questions.

03 —

Aggression & intent

Play with purpose, courage and controlled intensity. Be decisive, communicate clearly and commit to the collective plan.
